New Delhi, Sep 23 (IANS) Describing the Ehsaas-e-Kashmir concert in Srinagar conducted by Zubin Mehta as a “stunning success”, German Ambassador Michael Steiner Monday said it was a cultural event aimed to bring Kashmir “back on the agenda” for more participation in capacity building.
Speaking to reporters at the embassy here, Steiner, who spearheaded the event held Sep 7 at the Shalimar Bagh in the valley, said the concert had helped to bring out not just the beauty of the place but “also showed the reality” of the state.
Steiner said the concert, the first of its kind in Kashmir, was attended by 2,700 people, including ordinary Kashmiris.
The event has helped mobilise funds to build hospitals and educational institutes in Kashmir, he said and added it had got rid of a “senseless debate” whether any cultural event can be held in Kashmir.
“We’ve done it, and it has had a far reaching result,” he said, adding that he had received hundreds of positive feedback for the event that was telecast live by Doordarshan to many European countries and in India.
