Jerusalem, Sep 30 (IANS) The Israeli Navy is all set to get three next-generation patrolling boats, the state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has revealed.
The Israel Navy currently deploys four Super Dvoras in routine security patrols along the country’s coasts and maritime borders with Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, Xinhua reported.
These are used in counter-terrorism and infiltration operations, as well as preventing smuggling and other illegal activity endangering strategic assets, such as newly- discovered natural gas reservoirs, among other missions, IAI said.
According to IAI, the country’s largest defence contractor, the 12-crewmen Super Dvora Mk 3 is developed and manufactured by its Ramta Division.
It has an advanced propulsion system that enables sharp and quick maneuvering, a variety of defence and attack capabilities, and a cruising range of 1000 nautical miles.
Details of the contract’s value and the delivery date, however, were not disclosed.
The company described the fourth-generation craft included in the new contract as “one of the world’s most advanced” in the fast attack category due to its exceptional speed, sturdiness and advanced detection, navigation, communications, missile defences and precision-fire measures. It is suited for achieving superiority in close combat.
