Beijing, Oct 1 (IANS) World No. 1 Novak Djokovic moved into the China Open second round Tuesday with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic.
Defending champion Djokovic was never troubled by World No. 46 Rosol, who just won 11 points in the one-sided first set.
“I needed to be very fresh from the start and try to bring that intensity, positive intensity to the court, and that’s what happened,” Djokovic was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
“I didn’t want to underestimate my opponent, knowing that he had a few big wins in his career and he has a big serve.”
The 26-year-old Serbian next faces Spain’s Fernando Verdasco, the world no. 31, who saw off Indian qualifier Somdev Devvarman 7-6 (6), 6-3 Tuesday.
