New Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS) Actress Neeru Bajwa has become a big name in the Punjab film industry, thanks to the success of “Jatt and Juliet” movies. Now she wants to use her name and fame to empower women.

Neeru, who made her debut in Punjabi movies in 2004 with “Asa Nu Mann Watna Da”, is now ready to take a plunge as a producer, a field that not many Punjabi women experiment with.
“My production house company is called Fresh Air Movies. I have a voice, opinion and mind of my own, so I want to empower women. I think if I can be of some inspiration for even 10 girls, I’ll be very happy about that,” Neeru, who is still gathering ideas for her production company, told IANS.
Currently the Punjabi star is looking forward to the release of her next film “RSVP – Ronde Saare Vyah Picho”, which will hit the theatres Oct 11.
She wants to dedicate the song “Kudi on fire” from the movie to girls.
“It’s an empowering song that’s why I love it. I want to dedicate it to all the girls…especially at a time like this when there is so much is going on in the country. Even I think twice before leaving the house,” said Neeru referring to the rise in the crime against women.
She is playing a con woman in the movie.
“Every role is challenging that I’ve done… I think Manpreet in ‘RSVP’ was quite a challenge for me…to play a con woman. I’ve never done that before,” she said.
The film sees her featuring in bridal outfits in several scenes.
“We shot every scene quite lavishly. The way it has been shot – the songs, wedding sequences, costumes, it’s a lot of fun. I feature as a bride quite a few times. (Fashion designer) Ritu Kumar has done bridal outfits,” said Neeru, who doesn’t enjoy attending weddings.
In fact, she wants a quiet ceremony whenever she plans to get hitched.
“I don’t like attending weddings. Whenever I get married, it will be a quiet one with close family and friends. I am one of those girls who have never thought about what she’ll wear at her wedding,” said Neeru, who was once in a long-term relationship with actor Amit Sadh.
After giving Punjabi hits like “Jatt & Juliet” and “Jatt & Juliet 2”, the actress now wants to do meaty roles in Hindi movies.
“The audience sees me in a certain way, so if I do Hindi films, they should be of same caliber as what I do in Punjab,” said the actress who had played small roles in Hindi films like “Prince” and “Phoonk 2”.
While language is no barrier for this model-turned-actress, one thing she wouldn’t do for sure is acting in TV shows.
“TV doesn’t attract me at all. I was lucky enough to do some decent shows, but I don’t watch TV. I don’t enjoy it…I can’t play the same character. I get bored very easily. I can’t go on for months playing the same character,” said Neeru, who was part of TV shows like “Jeet” and “Astitva – Ek Prem Kahani”.
