New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS) A week after NGOs started a campaign to woo more and more university students so they can vote in the Dec 4 Delhi assembly elections, only 200 students have till now filled up the electoral forms to enroll in the voter list, Delhi Election Commission sources said Tuesday.
“Various methods like street corner plays and counselling are being used to spread awareness among the students, but it seems that majority of them are determined not to vote,” said Uttkarsh Rai, founder member of Sankalp, an NGO.
“Till now, the campaign has been completed in four Delhi University-affiliated colleges and the Jawaharlal Nehru University. But the efforts have not shown the desired results,” he added.
The campaign work has been stopped for now because of Diwali. Once the colleges and the universities reopen, better and more effective methods will be used to boost the young voters so they participate in the elections and use their electoral right, said Harshit, another member from Sankalp.
