New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) The Delhi Election Commission will organise a Kabaddi tournament to woo voters in some areas of the national capital, a source in the poll panel said Thursday.
Voters from Ladpur, Johnty and Nizampur villages in Delhi’s Northwest district boycotted last year’s municipal corporation elections over land consolidation issues.
There was not a single voter from these three villages, according to the source. “Organising a Kabaddi match was the only option left for us to spread awareness about the voting rights, as many players in the Indian Kabaddi team are from these three villages,” the source told IANS.
Twenty teams will participate in the two-day tournament that starts Friday.
“Our motto is to make the people realise that voting is a vital part of democracy and the only way they can get rid of their problems,” the source said.
