Macao, Nov 17 (IANS) Edoardo Mortara defied the odds in the Macao GT Cup to roar to a triumphant sixth victory on a 6.2 km Guia street circuit here Sunday.

In a dramatic 12-lap race, the Italian thundered across the line more than 1.5 seconds ahead of Briton Danny Watts. The third place went to Alexandre Imperatori of Hong Kong, who rounded out a strong weekend, but whose quest for second was thwarted by a backmarker in the closing stages, reports Xinhua.
“I almost crashed with Imperatori in the first corner I almost crashed with Stefan in the second corner. I don’t know how I ended up fourth as they were so much faster than me on the straights.” said Mortara.
“When people say it’s easy for me to win here, I think today you saw how difficult it was. This is probably the best victory I have had here and one I will never, ever forget,” added Mortara.
As the only man to win the Macao Grand Prix twice having achieved back-to-back victories in 2009 and 2010, Mortara added the Audi R8 LMS Cup to his collection last week, which was his fifth on the Guia street circuit.
