Rohtak (Haryana), Dec 2 (IANS) The director of a hotel management institute under Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) in this Haryana town was critically injured Monday when a former student allegedly shot him from close range, police said.
Ashish Dahiya, director of the Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (IHTM) and an associate professor in the university, was admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here where doctors said his condition was critical. Dahiya received two bullets in the stomach.
Police later arrested the assailant, Varinder Kumar.
Varinder Kumar told the police that he shot at Dahiya as the institute authorities were not allotting him a roll number to sit in the ‘re-appear’ examination of the hotel management course he was pursuing earlier.
Police said that Varinder Kumar entered the office of the director and had an argument over release of his roll number. As Dahiya asked him to leave the room, he allegedly pulled out a weapon and fired at him.
