Guwahati, Dec 14 (IANS) Reiterating that the Congress will do well in Assam in the Lok Sabha polls, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Saturday said he would resign from his post if the party failed to secure at least seven seats in the forthcoming polls.
“We are going to do well in the Lok Sabha polls. I am sure we are going to get more seats next year than the last Lok Sabha polls in 2009. I am going to resign if the party fails to secure less then seven seats, which we won in 2009,” said Gogoi.
Gogoi also said the party would face the polls with its report card. “We are going to publish our report card for past 12 years and give it to the people by January next year,” he said, adding the report card would include details of the performance of the Congress-led government and that of governments of other parties in the past.
The people of the state can themselves analyse what the Congress government has done in the past 12 years from the report card, Gogoi said while challenging the opposition parties to come up with similar report cards.
The chief minister also hinted that his son Gourav might contest the Lok Sabha polls from Kaliabar, being held by his brother Dip at present.
“A formal decision is yet to be taken over the matter but some sections of the media are trying to create a rift within the family over this. However, the relationship among the family, particularly between nephew and uncle (Gourav and Dip, respectively) is very good and not likely to be affected due to this,” he said.
