Damascus, Feb 10 (IANS) Over 600 civilians were evacuated from the Syrian city of Homs Sunday, a senior official said.
A total of 611 civilians were evacuated from the rebel-held old city of Homs, as part of a recently concluded deal between the UN and the Syrian government, Xinhua quoted Talal Barazi, the governor of Homs, as saying.
Most of the evacuees were women, children, and old men, who would receive proper care and medical treatment, he said, adding the evacuation process could continue for the next three days.
About 2,500 people are believed to be trapped in the rebel-held old city, part of which has been under siege by government troops since June 2012.
