Chandigarh, April 4 (IANS) A record seizure of drugs and liquor valued at Rs.345 crore has been made in Punjab since the imposition of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha election, senior election department officials said here Friday.
“After the imposition of code of conduct, a record seizure of drugs including synthetic drugs and liquor valued at Rs.345 crore has been made in the state. These include 12,693 kg of poppy husk (valued at Rs.2.53 crore), 68.35 kg heroin (Rs.340.17 crore), 109.82 kg of opium (Rs.50 Lakh) and 1,540 gms smack (Rs.10.78 lakh),” Punjab’s additional chief electoral officers Raminder Singh and B. Purushartha told media here.
They said that flying squads had also recovered cash amounting to Rs.2.55 crore.
“As many as 2,21,991 licensed arms have been deposited and 1,530 FIRs have been registered regarding violation of model code of conduct and other crimes in the state,” they said.
Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats go to polls April 30.
