Berlin, April 6 (IANS) Bayer Leverkusen have sacked coach Sami Hyypia owing to the team’s poor performances, the club announced.

Bayern Leverkusen and coach Sami Hyypia parted company Saturday with immediate effect following poor results, reports Xinhua.
After Friday’s 1-2 loss to relegation threatened Hamburg the club came to the conclusion that under Hyypia the qualification for the European competitions were at stake.
Leverkusen are in fourth place but have earned just one win out of nine league matches.
“The decision was more than difficult because Sami has done a great job in the past two years. But, the dramatic developments of recent weeks gave us no choice but to part company. We want and need to do everything to complete the season as good as possible,” Leverkusen’s director of sports Rudi Voeller said.
Leverkusen’s youth coach Sascha Lewandowski will be the caretaker until the end of the season.
