Srinagar, April 7 (IANS) Two policemen including an officer were injured Monday in a gunfight with separatist guerrillas holed up in a house in in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said. The exchange of fire was still on late in the evening.

A senior police officer said an operation was launched by the security forces on specific information about the presence of guerrillas in Zunrishi (Chokibal) village of Kupwara district, 130 km from here, Monday evening.
“When the security forces cordoned off a house and challenged the hiding militants to surrender, they started indiscriminate firing at the surrounding security forces,” he said, adding that two police personnel – an assistant sub-inspector and a constable – were injured.
“The cordon around the house where the militants are hiding was tightened and the injured policemen were shifted to hospital for treatment,” he added.
He said exchange of firing between the militants, believed to be two in number, and the security forces are going on as on 9.15 p.m.
