New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) Narendra Modi will be the prime minister if NDA forms the government after the Lok Sabha polls irrespective of the number of seats won by the BJP, party president Rajnath Singh said, while accusing the Congress of trying to polarise the election.
Rajnath Singh told Times Now news channel in an interview that Modi was the declared prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“If someone will be prime minister, it will be Narendra Modi. I have clarified it repeatedly,” he said.
Asked if there was a “Plan B” in case the BJP wins less then 200 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, Rajnath Singh said such rumours were being spread by the opponents of the party.
“It is a deliberate attempt to create confusion by our political opponents,” he said.
Asked if he could be more acceptable to leaders such as Mamata Banerjee and Jayalalithaa in case their support was needed by the BJP in the post-poll scenario, Rajnath Singh reiterated that only Modi will be the prime minister.
He accused the Congress of trying to polarise the Lok Sabha election on communal lines.
“They are not doing it for the first time. They are trying to polarise on communal basis. British had a policy of divide and rule. Congress has adopted it,” he said.
He said “political untouchability” has ended and BJP has more allies than the Congress, while forecasting that more parties would join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance after the elections.
