Bangalore, April 17 (IANS) Top seed Dev Javia of Gujarat led the boys singles field into the semi-finals of the KTPPA-AITA National Series Under-12 Tennis Tournament with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over lower-ranked Gaurav Kurva of Andhra here Thursday.
Also advancing to the semis was fourth seed Eshaan Lumba, who too dropped the first set but bounced back to beat another Andhra player Adarsh Naga 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
In the last four, Javia will meet Lumba while Mahesh Mohapatra (Odisha) will clash with S. Boopathy (Tamil Nadu).
Second seed Boopathy, who is also No.2 in the Under-12 national ranking, out hit a sluggish Sriram (Karnataka) 6-2, 6-0 while Mohapatra defeated a clueless P.M. Prasanna (Karnataka) 6-0, 6-0.
In the girls singles, the three remaining Karnataka girls Chandrika Joshi, Parvvi Patil and Reshma Maruri, made their exits.
Chandrika, who played well and had her rival Bhakti Parwani of Gujarat at her mercy leading 3-6, 6-3, 5-1 and 40-15 in the decider, blew her chances with unforced errors as Bhakti rallied to level at 5-all before clinching the set and match in the tie-breaker.
Top seed Mubashir Anjum Shaik easily beat Parvvi 6-3, 6-3 while Reshma went down to Fathima Juveri of Andhra 4-6, 4-6.
