Thiruvananthapuram, April 30 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is still working to resolve the issue of setting up a waste treatment plant in the state, as he completes three years in office next month.
“I will never blame people for they have lost confidence when a waste treatment plant was not erected. It is going to be three years since we took over power. We are still working to find a solution to waste management and will be able to identify one soon,” Chandy told reporters here Wednesday.
He said the cabinet meeting held Wednesday has decided to ask all the ministers to come up with a programme on what they intended to do in the remaining two years.
“I have asked them to come up with the proposals which are financially and practically viable. We will evaluate them first and make it public later about what people can expect in next two years,” said Chandy.
He will complete three years in office May 17 and is expected to come up with a progress report of the government.
The issue of waste disposal has been dogging him since he assumed office in May 2011.
Currently, waste is being dumped in open places in the cities. Studies have shown that about 8,300 tonnes of waste is generated in the state per day, of which 70 to 80 percent of the total waste generated is bio-degradable in nature.
