Dhaka, Aug 28 (Inditop.com) India’s Jet Airways will launch new daily direct flights on the Mumbai-Dhaka route beginning mid-September, the company announced.
Bangladesh aviation industry people, however, said for either business or tourism the Dhaka-Mumbai connecting flights had very little prospect.
“Jet might have eyed mainly the prospects of Bangladeshi passengers to and from the Gulf destinations via Mumbai,” a senior official at a Bangladeshi private airline told New Age newspaper Thursday.
A Jet Airways statement said: “With the launch of our Mumbai-Dhaka service, passengers from Bangladesh may connect on to Jet Airways’ services to North America, Europe and the Gulf, as well as other ASEAN destinations, via Jet hubs in Mumbai and Delhi.”
Bangladesh’s national carrier Biman has been having problems. Together with private airlines, it is unable to tackle the traffic of more than two million Bangladeshi migrant workers who reside in the Gulf countries.
The Dhaka-Mumbai route will be Jet Airways’ third daily service to Bangladesh from India.
The airline currently flies daily from Delhi and Kolkata to Dhaka.
India’s largest private airline, Jet Airways currently operates a fleet of 84 aircraft, which comprises 10 Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, 12 Airbus A330-200 aircraft, 48 next generation Boeing 737-700/800/900 aircraft and 14 modern ATR 72-500 turboprop aircraft.
