New Delhi, Aug 28 (Inditop.com) Indian tractor maker Sonalika group says it has developed a pollution-free three-wheeler that will run on hydrogen and emit only vapour.

The engine has been developed in technical collaboration with Banaras Hindu University. Around 20 scientists and engineers of Sonalika Group and Banaras Hindu University have worked for seven years to make the project viable, the company said.

“The new three-wheeler will run on hydrogen and emit only vapour,” said company managing director Deepak Mittal.

Additionally, as the engine will be powered by hydrogen, fuel efficiency will increase 25 percent, he added.

Sonalika Group and the renewable energy ministry have jointly funded the project, he added.

The vehicle will reach a speed of 70 km per hour and can ply in sub-zero temperatures, Mittal said, adding that the test ride had been conducted before scientists and automobile experts.

Maintaining that Sonalika was interested in operating 20 zero-emission three-wheelers and a few buses powered by hydrogen, Mittal called for creation of infrastructure like filling stations on a pilot basis.
