Kolkata, Aug 29 (Inditop.com) Two people were killed, one of them in police firing, after trouble broke out over a road accident in West Bengal Saturday, officials said.
A speeding truck, trying to overtake a police vehicle, hit a motorcycle rider who died on the spot at Ramjibanpur, near Chandrakona of West Midnapore District, about 150 km from here.
Chandrakona sub-divisional officer Ashok Das said locals who had gathered at the spot turned violent and torched the truck and the police vehicle.
As the situation was spinning out of control, police reinforcements were sent in. As a baton charge, teargas shells and rubber bullets failed to bring the mob under control, police were forced to open fire in which a boy was killed, Das said.
As many as 27 people, including eight policemen, were injured in the violence, he added.
A police picket was put up at the spot, where the situation was critical but under control, according to officials.
