New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal Thursday urged autorickshaw drivers to trap policemen who demand bribes by recording their voices on mobile phones.
“I ask you to record or do a sting if any policeman demands money or issues an illegal challan,” the former Delhi chief minister told a rally here of thousands of autorickshaw drivers.
Kejriwal pledged to act against corrupt policemen if and when the Aam Aadmi Party returns to power in Delhi.
Addressing the rally at the Ramlila Maidan in the heart of the capital, Kejriwal said he will meet Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung and Commissioner of Police B.S. Bassi to address the problems of autorickshaw drivers.
Autorickshaw driver Mohammad Ali, who attended the rally, told IANS: “Police should at least not issue challan when we refuse a commuter when we are going for food or for some personal emergency work.”
The former chief minister also appealed to the auto drivers to unite and form a big organisation, which will take up their issues further.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia asked police to stop harassing drivers of autorickshaws, which he described as Delhi’s “lifeline”.
Nemi Chand, another autorickshaw driver, said: “Police didn’t harass us during the AAP rule. We will again bring the AAP to power in Delhi.”
The AAP announced a helpline (85888-33553) for autorickshaw drivers to lodge their grievances against the authorities.
Kejriwal was chief minister of Delhi for 49 days at the head of a minority AAP government until he resigned Feb 14 this year.
