Kolkata, Aug 1 (IANS) Stressing the need for proper training to make the socio-economically weaker sections of the population more employable, President Pranab Mukherjee Friday said efforts should be made to turn the huge number of job seekers into skilled workers.
“Socio-economically weaker sections of the country can be made more employable through proper training. 58 percent of India’s total population of 125 crores are job seekers. They should be trained to become skilled workers,” Mukehrjee said while inaugurating the campus of the Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology (GKCIET) at Narayanpur of Malda district.
The president said in the globalised era, the mobility of people in search of jobs has gone up, but as only one-third of the country’s work force was fully skilled, India has to give skill training to about 50 crores job seekers in the coming years.
Describing late union minister A.B.A. Ghani Khan Choudhury as a personal friend, Mukherjee recalled his untiring developmental work for the people of Malda, north Bengal, the state of West Bengal and adjoining areas.
