The Hague, Sep 1 (IANS) On the final day of the Dutch football transfer market Feyenoord bought goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer from long-time rivals Ajax for around one million euros.
The 28-year-old Vermeer is a product of the Ajax youth academy and played for Ajax during his whole career, apart from a loan-spell at Willem II in the 2007/2008 season. He was a regular in 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 season, but he lost his place to Jasper Cillessen last year, reports Xinhua.
Due to his reserve position the four-times Dutch international was allowed to leave Ajax for around one million euros. Feyenoord, which is unsatisfied about the development of current goalkeeper Erwin Mulder (25), decided to make a move and signed Vermeer for four-year deal.
Ajax also took over 33-year-old Diederik Boer from PEC Zwolle as replacement for Vermeer. He will be the new second choice behind Cillessen. Feyenoord reserve keeper Warner Hahn (22) is now expected to move to PEC Zwolle on loan.
Feyenoord also announced the signing of Karim El Ahmadi. The 29-year-old midfielder returned from an adventure at Aston Villa and signed a three-year contract.
