Panaji, Sep 5 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s chaste Hindi proved to an impediment for students in Goa, listening to his Teachers’ Day televised address, at the minority institution of Don Bosco here, principal Avin Carvalho said Friday.
Carvalho told reporters that the school had planned to organise Teachers’ Day another day, but special arrangements were made to allow students to listen to their prime minister live from 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.
“We did have that concern (because) many students are not fluent in Hindi… I am sure many of them are not following what the PM is speaking because their level of Hindi is very low,” he said.
The live telecast of Modi’s address, a first by an Indian prime minister and instructions to school managements to ensure screening of the event in schools had triggered controversy in the state and other parts of the country.
