R&B superstar MARY J. BLIGE will be the guest of honour at an upcoming children’s charity gala in New York, where she will be lauded for her philanthropy efforts.

The Family Affair hitmaker is set to receive the Nicholas Scoppetta Child Welfare Award at the 10th Annual New Yorkers For Children Fall Gala on 22 September (09).

The accolade is in recognition for her work as the founder of the Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN), an organisation which helps boost women’s confidence and acquire the skills needed to achieve their full potential.

The event, which will be hosted by U.S. newsman Anderson Cooper, will raise money for foster children and at-risk families in the Big Apple
