Mumbai, Sep 3 (Inditop.com) Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba has termed India as “a friend indeed”, acknowledging its contribution to the freedom struggle of the southern African country.

“India was the first country to accord diplomatic status to Namibia. We look at India as a friend indeed because it was a friend in need,” Pohamba said at a dinner in Raj Bhavan hosted in his honour by Maharashtra Governor S.C. Jamir Wednesday.

Pohamba informed Jamir that he had fruitful discussions with the business captains in Mumbai, including Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata, a Raj Bhavan spokesman said here Thursday afternoon.

The meetings enabled him to showcase what Namibia had to offer to the business community. Pohamba was on a five-day visit to India.

“Even though Namibia is a small country, we are rich in natural resources. India’s help in the transfer of skills to explore these resources would prove mutually beneficial for the two countries,” Pohamba remarked.

Jamir said India has always had excellent relations with Namibia even when it was under colonial rule. He told Pohamba that Maharashtra has 19 universities and would be happy to assist the only university in Namibia.
