United Nations, April 8 (Inditop) Every country has the right to use outer space for peaceful purpose, a North Korean diplomat to the UN said.

“Every country has an inalienable right to use the outer space peacefully,” Pak Tok Hun, North Korea’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, told reporters here Tuesday.

This was Pyongyang’s first statement to the UN since it launched a failed controversial rocket Sunday.

“Many countries have already launched satellites several hundred times; but we’re not allowed to do that and it is not fair,” he said. “This is a satellite, everyone can distinguish satellite from missiles. Most countries recognise that it was not a missile.”

“If the (UN) Security Council takes any step (against North Korea for rocket launch), we will consider it an infringement on our sovereignty and the next option will be ours,” he said. “Necessary and strong steps will follow after that
