Kabul, Nov 23 (IANS) At least 14 people were killed and 35 wounded Sunday in a suicide bomb attack at a volleyball ground in Paktika province of Afghanistan, a source said.
“The blast occurred late in the evening. Army rescue teams evacuated 14 bodies and 35 injured people were sent to military and government hospitals,” Xinhua quoted an army source as saying. The blast took place in Yayakhil district.
General Mohammad Ayub Salangi, deputy minister of interior affairs, said on his twitter account that 10 people were killed and 30 others were injured. But unofficial sources put the number of the casualties as high as 50 killed and 60 injured.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
The attack came after the lower house of the Afghanistan parliament endorsed a security and defence agreement with the US and a similar pact with the NATO earlier in the day.
