CHRIS BROWN has defended his decision to take to the ocean on a jet ski just weeks after assaulting RIHANNA, insisting he “just wanted to have fun” and rebuild his friendship with the R&B beauty.
Rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs gave the Kiss Kiss hitmaker the keys to his Miami, Florida mansion just weeks after the February (09) incident to allow the former couple space to work out their problems.
Photos of a smiling Brown riding around on one of Diddy’s jet skis stirred controversy, prompting stars like Usher to speak out and urge him to “show some remorse” for leaving Rihanna battered and bruised.
But Brown insists he was doing nothing wrong and was just trying to make the Umbrella singer happy by helping her to relax.
In a TV interview with Larry King, Brown’s first since the attack, he admits they never discussed the fight, saying, “I know I got a lot of flak for that, ‘why is he on a jet ski?’, but I was rekindling a relationship with a friend. We just wanted to relax.
“The situation was real touchy so we didn’t talk about it, we just wanted to be friends. We just wanted to have fun.”
And Brown is thankful to Diddy for his generosity because the former couple was able to part ways on good terms.
He adds, “I know people said Puffy (Diddy) was the mediator, but he wasn’t, he was just a friend. He stepped up, he was like, ‘I’ll lend you my house.’
“I know definitely that we ended that relationship as friends.”
Brown was sentenced to five years probation and six weeks of hard labour in August (09) after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors. He must also stay away from Rihanna for the duration of his punishment.
