Cairo, Dec 25 (IANS) The Egyptian health ministry announced Thursday that a five-year-old boy died of bird flu Wednesday, raising the number of deaths this year from the H5N1 virus to 10.

The child’s symptoms were a fever, cough, sore throat and difficulty in breathing. His mother said he had gotten exposed to infected birds, Xinhua reported.
According to the health ministry estimates, this was the 22nd infection in Egypt in 2014.
The ministry has urged people to seek immediate medical attention once symptoms start appearing, and to cover their mouths and noses when handling any kind of poultry.
