Jammu, Sep 5 (Inditop.com) The Jammu and Kashmir police Saturday released a photograph of Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant Abu Jindal, who was killed in a gun battle with the security forces Friday, after speculation that he had taught Hindi to the 26/11 Mumbai attackers.

The sole surviving terrorist of the Mumbai attacks, Ajmal Amir Kasab, had told the special court that their Hindi tutor during their training had been the LeT’s Abu Jindal.

After the killing of Abu Jindal, who was actually called Mohammed Owais but who went by several code names including Bilal, speculation linking him to the planners of the Mumbai attacks spread.

A copy of the photograph is believed to have been sent to Mumbai police, though they neither asked for it, nor ever mentioned the need to know antecedents of the terrorist killed in Mahore, 150 km north of Jammu, Friday.

A senior police official said Owais was active in the area for more than two years and there were remote chances of his being the same Abu Jindal that Kasab had mentioned. “Still, we would not rule it out and have circulated the picture for verification.”
