New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee Wednesday greeted the country on New Year’s eve and urged people to dedicate 2015 to create an “inclusive society” and promote “tolerance and understanding” among all communities.

“I extend warm greetings and best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year. Let 2015 be a year of peace, progress and harmony. Let us abhor violence and maintain maximum vigilance against all efforts, from within or without, to disturb peace and security,” Mukherjee said in his message.
“Let us celebrate pluralism and promote tolerance and understanding amongst all communities. Let the New Year be dedicated to the creation of an inclusive society where goodwill and brotherhood prevails amongst our people.”
Mukherjee said the society must ensure the protection of women, and “greater gender sensitivity”.
He asked people to keep supporting the initiatives launched by the government in 2014, to ensure their success.
“A number of new beginnings have been made and important initiatives launched in 2014. We must take these initiatives to fruition. Let us work with heart and soul and without distraction, to take our nation to new heights of achievement,” he said.
Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung too extended his greetings on the occasion.
“May the coming year hold the promise of hope and optimism for all. As we step into the New Year, let us resolve to work together towards building a united and prosperous India,” Jung said in a message addressed to people of Delhi and the country.
“May the New Year mark the end of suffering and usher in new hope, especially for those most in need,” he added.
