Kolkata, Jan 1 (IANS) The parliamentary standing committee on commerce will tour West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala January-February to analyse the situation of the rubber and tyre industry in the country, its head Chandan Mitra said Thursday.
“We will be visiting Dunlop India in West Bengal on Jan 5 followed by Tripura on Jan 6-7. Therafter, we’ll go to Kerala in February,” Mitra, a Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha member, told IANS.
The standing committee will thereafter submit its report to the central government on the state of rubber and tyre industry with recommendations of means to boost production. It is also expected to recommend on the growth of the market.
“West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala are some of the fastest growing states in the field of rubber and tyre. We have sent meeting proposals to the respective stakeholders of the industry,” Mitra said.
Asked over his plans to revive the tyre production of the closed Sahagunj unit of Dunlop India, Mitra said: “We might consider revival plans but discussion on the industry is the prime agenda.”
