Islamabad, Jan 2 (IANS) The Pakistan government Friday sought early hearing of alleged 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi’s case in the Supreme Court, media reported.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has challenged the suspension of the detention order of Lakhvi, Geo TV reported.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday suspended the notification of detention of Lakhvi in the Mumbai terror attacks case.
He had moved the Islamabad High Court against the government’s decision over his detention.
Lakhvi was detained Dec 19, 2014, under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), a day after he was granted bail by an anti-terrorism court. He was granted bail on surety bond of Rs.5,00,000.
He is currently detained at Adiala Prison after being placed on judicial remand for 14 days for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping case.
Lakhvi was arrested in February 2009 and indicted along with six others Nov 25, 2009, for planning and helping to carry out the Mumbai terror attacks.
Lakhvi was believed to be the operational chief of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) which has been accused by India of carrying out the attacks in Mumbai.
