New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) secretary Aditya Verma Thursday requested former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president and union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley not to support sidelined president N. Srinivasan.
Srinivasan was barred by the Supreme Court Jan 22 from contesting the BCCI elections as long as he was involved in a “conflict of interest” situation as an owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings.
“It is my humble request to not give any appointment to N. Srinivasan for discussing any matter related to BCCI because Srinivasan, including some officials and owners’ roles are under probe,” Verma wrote in a letter to Jaitley.
Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, who was a Chennai Super Kings team official, was found guilty of betting by the Supreme Court during the scandal-hit 2013 IPL.
In its judgment, the apex court said that Srinivasan cannot hold stake in any IPL team as long as he is the president of the BCCI, barring him from contesting the overdue board elections.
