New Delhi, March 1 (IANS) The Delhi Metro will introduce 17 additional trains from Monday during rush hours, an official said on Sunday.
“From tomorrow (Monday), there will be a total of 17 additional trains making 104 extra trips during off-peak and evening peak hours on all lines except Line-5 (Inderlok to Mundka) and Airport Express,” the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement.
“The move is aimed at decongesting the evening peak hour passenger rush and also to encourage passengers to avail metro services during off-peak hours,” it added.
The DMRC increased the number of coaches from 640 to 1,076 — an increase of almost 70 percent — across all networks between 2010 and 2014 in the wake of passenger load of about 25 lakh per day, it said.
All four coach trains on the “busiest” lines — Line-2 (HUDA City Centre to Jahangirpuri), Line-3 (Dwarka Sector 21 to NOIDA City Centre) and Line-4 (Yamuna Bank to Vaishali) — have been converted into 6 and 8 coaches, it said.
