New Delhi, March 31 (IANS) The Delhi government on Tuesday said it would increase the number of buses in the capital under its route revival plan.
“We want to make public transport strong in Delhi for which there is a need to increase the number of buses in the city. With a view to ferry the crowd properly, we will increase the number of buses in Delhi,” Transport Minister Gopal Rai said at a press conference.
In this connection, a meeting of transport department officials and legislators of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party was held on Monday, he said.
“We have only 5,500 buses in Delhi. We want to introduce 1,000 more buses,” said Rai.
The minister said he has received a number of complaints regarding the less number of buses on many routes of Delhi.
“To solve this problem, we are bringing a route revival plan in which transport department officials will study every aspect of public transport in the city. Under this plan, the number and frequency of buses will be increased. Timings of buses will also be revised in this plan,” he said.
“The number of Metro feeder buses and cluster buses will also be increased. We are planning to introduce mini-sized buses. These buses will be used for rural areas of the national capital. We will also use such buses in areas where roads are narrow,” he said.
