Kingston, April 2 (IANS) The US embassy in Jamaica was shut down for several hours after an unidentified package was thrown over its perimeter wall, a week before US President Barack Obama’s visit to the country.

The incident happened around 7.45 a.m. On Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Clifford Blake told a press conference, adding the police have quickly caught the “white man who spoke with an American accent”, Xinhua news agency reported.
Bomb disposal experts were summoned to examine the contents of the package but “no threats were uncovered,” Blake said.
Obama is to visit Jamaica and meet with leaders from the Caribbean community on April 9.
