Patna, April 2 (IANS) Six police officials were injured in Bihar’s Sheikhpura district on Thursday when a mob attacked them after the policemen objected to their alleged forced donation drive for organising a religious programme.
A station house officer was among those injured in the mob attack on the Chabda police station, a district police official said. All the injured were admitted to a hospital.
According to police, some people were forcibly demanding donations from all those passing through the village road.
“After a complaint was filed, police intervened and detained some people and stopped the forced donation,” the official said.
Irked by the police action, hundreds of villagers protested in front of the police station and later attacked the officials.
Villagers pelted stones at the policemen and also beat up some of them inside the police station. They also freed some villagers detained over the donation drive, police said.
