New Delhi, Sep 10 (Inditop.com) The Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering, Thursday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a network of seven French engineering institutions, The Groupe Des Ecoles Des Mines (GEM), to foster collaboration, provide opportunities for global experience and facilitate advancement of knowledge in the field of engineering.
The MoU was signed here by DTU Vice Chancellor P.B. Sharma and Jacques Schwartzentruber, GEM’s head of international relations.
Under the MoU, academic representatives will be invited to participate in symposia, conferences, short courses and meetings on research issues, a DTU statement said.
Faculty and staff of the partner institutions will also be invited to participate in a variety of teaching and/or research activities and professional development programmes.
The two institutions have also agreed to exchange information pertaining to developments in teaching and students’ development and cooperate in joint research programs in areas of mutual interest, the statement said.
“Student exchanges will be an important component of this MoU, which will allow students of both the institutions to undertake one or two semesters of their academic programme at partner institution.
“The exchange programme may also include an internship either in a local company or in a research laboratory of the host institution,” the statement said.
According to Sharma, “international cooperation and collaboration has become a necessity to foster globally accreditated higher education and research. The partnership with GEM shall be an added advantage as the focus here is on industry relevance for education and research.”
GEM institutions offer academic and research programmes in almost all engineering disciplines and function in close coordination with the industry.
Speaking about the partnership with DTU, Schwartzentruber said: “We were keen to partner with leading engineering institution in India and are happy to be associated with DTU, which shares the same philosophy of engineering as we do.”
