Shimla, Sep 12 (Inditop.com) A car plunged into a rain-swollen river in Himachal Pradesh Saturday, and police said all its nine occupants may have drowned.

Police Superintendent S.M. Agnihotri said all nine men in the Tata Sumo were reported missing after the vehicle fell into the Beas river near the Chandigarh-Manali highway.

The accident took place some 200 km from Shimla.

Agnihotri said the victims were aged between 35 and 40 years and belonged to Hamirpur town in Himachal Pradesh. They were on their way to the Manikaran Sahib Sikh shrine.

“A search is on to locate the vehicle and its occupants but chances of finding any survivor are bleak as the river current is very turbulent due to heavy rains,” he said.
