Kabul, May 27 (IANS) Casualties were feared as explosions and ensuing gunshots rocked a diplomatic district in the central part of Kabul on Tuesday night, sources said.
The incident took place in Wazir Akbar Khan, the diplomatic enclave, after explosions went off in the area. The first blast took place at around 11.07 p.m. which was followed by sporadic gunshots, Xinhua quoted a security source as saying.
“A terrorist attack is suspected, and several attackers have been involved in the firing which took place near a hotel frequented by the foreigners,” a witness said, adding that the target of the attack might be a guest house near the Heetal Plaza Hotel.
The Afghan security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Earlier on Tuesday, two police personnel and four assailants were killed when militants attacked a local court complex in Wardak province .
The attack occurred in Maidan Shar city after four militants tried to enter the provincial court building but their assault was repelled by the security forces.
“One terrorist blew up his explosive vest at the front gate while three militants tried to get access to the second gate shortly after the blast,” the official said, adding the attackers were disguised in army uniform.
Two policemen were killed following the blast while three militants were shot dead by the security forces before reaching the second security gate.
