Islamabad, June 1 (IANS) Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Monday claimed responsibility for the killing of a member of the Punjab legislative assembly, who was shot dead along with his son and a party worker on Sunday evening.

Taliban spokesman Mohammad Khorasani told Dawn online that the attack on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) legislator Rana Shamshad was carried out by militants belonging to the proscribed group.
The Punjab legislator was on the way to his home in Gujranwala district’s Kamoke city – accompanied by his son, nephew and a party worker- when armed assailants opened fire at Shamshad’s vehicle.
Police sources said Shamshad and his son were pronounced dead by the hospital.
Shamshad was elected to the Punjab assembly from Gujranwala’s constituency and had earlier served as a provincial transport minister.
