London, June 2 (IANS) Days after being re-elected FIFA president for the fifth time, Sepp Blatter on Tuesday announced he was stepping down amid a corruption scandal, media reports said.
Blatter, 79, has called an extraordinary FIFA congress “as soon as possible” to elect a new president, reported BBC.
He was re-elected head of football’s governing council last week, despite seven top FIFA officials being arrested two days before the vote as part of a US probe.
