Paris, June 3 (IANS) Top seeded women’s doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis were on Wednesday sent packing from the French Open tennis tournament when they lost their quarter-finals clash.

The Indo-Swiss pair bowed out 5-7, 2-6 to seventh-seeded pair of Bethanie Mattek-Sands of United States and Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova in a last-eight battle at Court 1.
Sania-Martina fought evenly with their opponents in the first set but lost steam at the most crucial juncture losing their serve to surrender the first set.
Mattek-Sands-Safarova got seven break points in the first set and won three of them to pocket the set.
And they consolidated in the second set, winning three of the four break points they got to close out the match comfortably.
They claimed 70 points in total in the match compared to 61 of Sania-Martina.
