Kabul, June 14 (IANS) A Taliban shadow provincial governor was killed along with 14 militants in an airstrike in Afghanistan’s Kunar province on Sunday, an official said.
“Based on accurate intelligence reports by Afghan forces, a pilotless plane of NATO-led forces carried out an attack on a militant hideout in Dangam district early on Sunday morning, killing 15 militants including Taliban’s shadowy governor for Kunar named Omar Zadran,” a provincial security official told Xinhua news agency.
Two local Taliban leaders – Mawlawi Hasghar and Shahab Uddin – were among those killed.
The mountainous province, with Asadabad as its capital, 180 km east of Kabul, is a known Taliban hotbed.
