New Delhi, June 15 (IANS) State-owned electrical engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) on Monday said it has completed commissioning of four units for NTPC in Himachal Pradesh.
The project has a capacity of generating approximately 3,054 gigawatt hours of power each year.
The units, each with a capacity of 200 MW, are for the Koldam Hydro Electric Project.
In a statement, the company said the projects were executed within a short span of 75 days, commencing with the commissioning of the first unit on March 30, 2015.
“With the commissioning of these units by BHEL, NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) has made its maiden entry in the hydro sector. Located at the embankment on river Sutlej in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, the surface power house is the first hydro project of NTPC,” the company said.
Besides the supply and installation of four 200 MW Francis turbines, the electrical gadget manufacturer’s scope of work includes supply and installation of matching synchronous generators, static excitation system, main inlet valves, digital governors, and control and monitoring System.
Associated station auxiliaries, and electrical and mechanical balance of plant equipment were also deployed in the project.
The electrical engineering major is presently executing three hydro electricity projects for power company NTPC — the 520 MW Tapovan Vishnugad (Uttarakhand) hydro electricity project, 171 MW Lata Tapovan (Uttarakhand) project and the 120 MW Rammam Stage 3 (West Bengal) project.
