Los Angeles, June 29 (IANS) Universal’s “Jurassic World” has become the fastest film to gross $500 million in North America.

It is only the fifth film to amass that figure in the continent, reports ew.com.
In its third weekend, “Jurassic World” brought in an estimated $54.2 million and narrowly surpassed Disney-Pixar’s latest animation film “Inside Out”, which made $52.1 million.
The second on the $500-million grossers list is the 2008 film “The Dark Knight” which minted a total of $534 million in the North American market.
“Jurassic World” is already the fastest film to hit $1 billion globally, and the last weekend brought its worldwide total to an estimated $1.238 billion, making it the eighth biggest movie of all time.
Even though the film topped the box office for the third weekend in a row, it was still a tight race with “Inside Out”, which also had a strong showing, only dropping about 42 percent.
Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Omar Sy, B.D. Wong and Irrfan Khan, “Jurassic World” is set on Isla Nublar island, the same location as “Jurassic Park”. It is a direct sequel to the runaway 1993 hit.
