Agra, July 11 (IANS) Thousands of pilgrims at temples of Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh were on Saturday caught up in a downpour that also lashed Agra and Aligarh districts.

In Mathura district, religious activities in the Braj are being organised on a massive scale. Lakhs of pilgrims from all over the country have already visited Mathura and Vrindavan for the parikrama of the holy Goverdhan hill.
Officials said in past 20 days more than 50 lakh pilgrims have already performed the 21-km long parikrama.
But rainfall since Friday evening has paralysed normal life as several low-lying areas have been flooded. Many schools remained closed and water-logging slowed traffic on the roads, the citizens in Mathura and Vrindavan complained.
