New Delhi, Sep 16 (Inditop.com) The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to roll out its new broad gauge trains from next month, which DMRC officials say will be more comfortable, swanky and faster than the present ones.
The DMRC plans to bring in the new trains completely by 2011 at a cost of Rs.29.84 billion.
The facilities on the new trains include a high capacity air-conditioning system, heat and humidity control system, sockets for charging mobile phones and laptops and closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to keep a watch on passengers.
The first train is likely to hit the tracks in the first week of October.
The process for procuring 424 coaches from German-based company Bombardier is still on and officials would assemble 37 four-car and 46 six-car trains, which will be used on the Dwarka to Anand Vihar and Dwarka to Noida lines and the Jehangirpuri to Shashank Lok line.
“The first broad gauge train is likely to roll out in the first week of next month. The trains are designed keeping in mind passengers’ comfort,” H.S. Anand, director of Metro’s Rolling Stock Department told reporters here.
Anand also said the maximum operational speed of the new trains will be 85 km per hour while the existing ones run at speeds up to 80 km per hour.
