Lucknow, July 23 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta has begun a probe against a senior IPS officer, Amitabh Thakur, an official said Thursday.
Thakur, who crossed swords with Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav accusing him of threatening him (Thakur), is scheduled to meet the Lokayukta Justice, N.K. Mehrotra.
Thakur, currently suspended and facing charges of rape, told IANS that he was going to meet the Lokayukta on his own after hearsay suggested that a probe was underway against him and his alleged properties.
“I have not been given any notice or anything but I am going to meet Justice Mehrotra and apprise him that the complainant against me has a malafide intention and is biased against me,” he said.
An RTI activist, Sanjay Sharma, has told the Lokayukta that Thakur had not given true details of the property he and his social activist wife Nutan Thakur have acquired in the past few years.
After the Lokayukta office received the complaint, he sought income tax returns of the past five years furnished by Amitabh Thakur.
A letter has been sent to Principal Secretary Devasheesh Panda seeking to know details of the assets and other properties owned by the Thakurs, an official confirmed.
